A Note from the Assistant Principal
Welcome to Week 7. The term is moving along fast and we have achieved so much at St Mary’s in such a short time.
Today, the students have an Orange Muffti Day in recognition of Anti – Bullying. There have been discussions about what ‘Bullying’ is, what form it comes in, and how it affects us. All the students produced posters in their MJR groups today promoting Anti – Bullying. A big thank you to the parents who have gone to a lot of trouble to dress their children in orange and make orange treats for the canteen. This help heightens the awareness of such an important cause.
As a new member of the St Mary’s School Community, I have been moved by how friendly, welcoming and kind everyone has been. This was echoed from other members of our West Wyalong Community and beyond, who have formally praised the students for their manners and respect at events this week such as the AFL Clinic, and the opening of the Time Capsule at ‘Cooinda Park’ on Monday. Well done everyone!
Numeracy is a major focus in our Annual Improvement Plan for St Mary’s in 2019. This week we were privileged to have Mr Bruce Ferrington from Radford College, Canberra come and demonstrate Inquiry Maths across our school. His lessons were highly engaging and he showed us that maths can be fun and interesting to learn. The teachers also met with Mr Ferrington to get ideas of how to teach Inquiry Maths and what resources could be useful. Thank you Mr Ferrington for sharing your expertise with us and being part of our Numeracy journey here at St Mary’s.
Enjoy your weekend, stay safe and see you all in Week 8!
Kind regards,
Mrs Scott

Congratulations to Logan Pettit - who after a some great play on Friday had a nerve-racking wait before he found out that he was chosen to represent the Canberra Goulburn team for Touch Football. He will trial at St Mary's in Penrith on 31 May to try to qualify for the MacKillop Team.
Well done to Logan Pettit, Sam Tulloch, Cruze Loudon and Flynn Bryant who travelled to Canberra on Tuesday to trial for the Canberra Goulburn Rugby League Team.
All our boys used their impressive skills to impress the selectors with Flynn and Logan being selected to trail for the MacKillop Team on 10 May.
Bad luck to Cruze Loudon, who was playing exceptionally well when he did a great tackle and broke his arm. We hope you recover quickly.
On Sunday 17th March we celebrate St Patrick’s Day in honour of a well known Catholic, Irish Saint who used the three leaves of a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. Each leaf represented the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Important Documentary for all Parents
An invitiation is extended to parents by Lara Kirk from the Marriage, Family and Relationships Centre at the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn to attend a screening of a documentary giving a clear-eyed examination of modern pornography and its effects on children, teens, parents and others. It demonstrates why children in particular, are susceptible to addiction.
Parents are asked to register to attend as catering will need to be arranged. The link to register is http://bit.ly/westwyalong.

Pictures around the school this week are:
- Our Year 5/6 students attending the opening of the Bland Shire time capsule on Monday.
- Our weekly award winners.
- Our students at the AFL Skills Day.
- Our students with Mr Ferrington who taught Maths inquiry learning.
- Our students in their orange mufti in support of anti-bullying day.
Today in MJR our students discussed bullying and the following posters were created by Mrs Manchur's and Mrs Mangelsdorf's MJR groups.
This was a great way for the students to learn and remember the Anti - Bullying message.
