A Message from our Acting Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Week 4. Thank you to those who attended our Book Week character parade. Everyone looked fabulous!!! It was a lovely morning and was great to see so many parents taking an interest in their child’s education. Thanks to Mrs Emma Speedy for her effort in organising the book fair, it was well attended and we raised quite a substantial amount of money for our library.
Well done to Meila and Indi Fair, Mae Dean and Louis Morton who represented the Western Region at the Canberra Goulburn Cross Country Championships at Stromlo in Canberra. More information and results will be shared later in the newsletter.
Our Year 5 and 6 students will travel to Temora on Wednesday to represent the school in the Mortimer Shield. We wish them luck.
Over the past few weeks students in Years 3 to 6 engaged in the system wide assessment schedule by completing the Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT). I look forward to analysing the results with our teachers and discussing the effectiveness of the programs taught in the upper years.
Last week, on Friday, Tracey Robertson spent some time with myself and others videoing our fabulous school for our website. The video was easy to create as there are so many great things to show off about our school. I look forward to sharing the finished product with you!!
Two weeks ago, Anne Cooper from Temora visited our school to take some photos of our fantastic staff, students and school. The pictures have just arrived and are great! A select few have been added to this newsletter. This week will feature Kinder. Keep an eye out for more!!
Remember my door is always open.

Book Fair and Book Parade 2024
St Mary's held its annual Book Fair and Book Parade on Wednesday the 15th of May.
The students all looked fabulous in the costumes. Thank you and well done to Mrs Speedy who organised the Parade and Book Fair.
As mentioned earlier in the newsletter Meila Fair, Indi Fair, Mae Dean and Louis Morton all from 3 Peace represented the Western Region at the Canberra Goulburn Cross Country championships at Stromlo in Canberra. Louis Morton finished 12th, Mae Dean finished 17th, Meila Fair finished 3rd and Indi Fair finished 4th. With a finish in the top 6 Meila and Indi have qualified to represent Canberra Goulburn at the Mackillop Trials at Eastern Creek in Sydney on June 5th. Well done to everyone involved!!
Our Year 5/6 students will be travelling to Temora by bus on Wednesday the 22nd of May to compete at the Mortimer Shield Rugby League Gala Day. St Mary's have entered one tackle boys team and one tag girls team. Both tackle and tag teams will feature seven players on the fiels per team.
The bus will be leaving the school at 9am and returning for afternoon buses.
Please ensure your child has their footy gear including head gear (if you have one), mouth guards and footy boots plus a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and the food they will require for the day.
The St Mary's jerseys and shorts will be given to the students on the day.
THERE WILL BE A CANTEEN OPERATING. BUT PLEASE DON'T RELY ON IT FOR ALL YOUR CHILD'S FOOD FOR THE DAY AS THEY OFTEN UNDER CATER.
Mrs Taylor will accompany the students on the bus and at the games.
Parents are most welcome to attend to cheer on the teams. A draw and field map will be attached to the event resources in Compass once supplied.

Did you know that Catholic Education and our school has a Child Safe Policy which outlines our approach to child safety. This can be accessed on the Catholic Education Safeguarding Page. We encourage you to visit this page and review our policy. As part of our approach to child safety Nickey Harland is also our schools Child Safe Advocate who works closely with our school regarding our approach and response to child safety matters. This approach involves pro active strategies to safeguard our students as well as responding to areas of concerns. The area of child safety includes many parts of a schools operation such as day to day activities, school events and school camps. We encourage you to contact us should you like to discuss this further.
