This month on SchoolTV - Body Image
Kids today are more obsessed with their body image than those in past generations. This is partially influenced by the media and their social connectivity. Encouraging kids to have a healthy body image in childhood, can lay the foundations for good physical and mental health later in life.
A recent study highlighted that body image is one of the top three concerns for Australian youth. Over half of girls in high schools have tried to lose weight. One-third of teenage boys wanted to be thinner and another third wanted to be larger. Children need to understand that their body shape and size is not a reflection of their health or success. Parents and schools need to work together to help kids understand that everyone is born with their own ‘body-suit’.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn how to encourage their child to have a positive body image and why it is so important to their mental health. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition and we always welcome your feedback.
If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school office for further information.

we wait and watch for your gift of rain
to water the soil and make the barren land come alive again.
We wait and watch for the gift of salvation
to free us from hatred, greed and fear
so that we may live again as people of faith, hope and love.
We make this prayer in the name of our Saviour who comes to be with us.
Amen.
We are welcoming new enrolments for the 2019 school year. We appreciate that this is a significant decision for parents and know that new families will need time to consider all available options. If you require further information please ring and make an appointment.

Western Region Public Speaking
St Mary's will be hosting the Western Region Public Speaking on Wednesday 22 August.
The school will provide morning tea and a light lunch to the parents and carers who attend this event with their children. We expect up to 80 parents and children.
We are calling for help from our school community:
- For donations of cakes, slices, biscuits and sandwiches. These would need to be delivered to the school before 11 am on the day.
- For a few parents to help setup, serve and clean up on the day from 10.30am to approximately 1.30pm.
If you can help please click on this link to email the school office.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Our school currently has a student enrolled who has a compromised immune system and is more vulnerable to disease than other students. We also have students enrolled in the school who, for medical reasons, cannot be immunised. Therefore, it is important that you do not send your children to school if they are unwell.
Students with a compromised immune system are especially susceptible to Chicken Pox and contact can have catastrophic results.
If you know of any chicken pox infections within the school families or students who may have had contact with chicken pox elsewhere please let the school know immediately. This will allow us to notify the parents of our most vulnerable students.
Your child should also stay at home if they have any infectious disease, coughs, runny noses, a temperature, diarrhea or other infections. For more information about how long an illness is contagious, contact your GP or visit the NSW Health website at health.nsw.gov.au.
There are a large number of polar fleece jumpers in lost property that we are unable to return to their owners as they do not have names on them.
PLEASE label your child’s clothing so that we can save parents money by returning jumpers that are discarded on the playground and in classrooms.
Jumpers that are named often end up in the wrong backpack, so we also ask that you check the name on your child’s jumper & return to the rightful owner if necessary.
