Welcome back to Term 3! I hope the school break has been a warm and relaxing one!
The students returned to school eager to catch up with classmates and teachers and share their holiday stories. They all look happy and refreshed.
There is somewhat a sense of de ja vu at the moment with COVID-19 updates and restrictions coming through on a regular basis and things do have the potential to change rather quickly. Please keep an eye on your email, as this is where any immediate updates will come through.
This term we will continue to focus on the 5 elements of our Mission Statement.
In partnership with families, we are committed to educating children who are:
- Compassionate - Loving one another as Jesus showed us.
- Respectful - Christian stewards with an understanding and appreciation of earth, themselves, culture and social diversity.
- Courageous - Authentic and spirited in their faith, learning and actions.
- Resilient - Adaptable, engaged and confident in their learning and interactions with each other.
- Committed - Creative problem solvers who collaborate with others to become responsible learners.
We look forward to a successful Term 3.
God Bless
Phil Nielsen
Principal
16th Sunday in Ordinary time:
Jesus demonstrated how important it is to engage in times of quiet prayer and reflection. When you expend a lot of time and energy in the service of others it is essential to reflect on those experiences, to learn from them and consider what you’d do differently next time. It is also important that any ministry that seeks to be based in the message of Jesus can only remain so if it is fuelled by prayer.
Only through prayerful dialogue with God can we learn what God desires for us.

Year 5/6 Biannual Canberra Excursion
The dates proposed are Term 4, Week 1 Wednesday 6th October to Friday 8th October, 2021. Most of the itinerary is finalised and we have secured cabin accommodation at the Alivio Tourist Park. Costing has not been finalised but we were looking between $250 - $350 maximum. At the moment restrictions don't allow school excursions but we are hoping that by Term 4 this may be lifted and the students can still attend the excursion.
Please mark these dates on your calendar and hopefully the excursion will be on. We will keep you informed as we know more.
Keeping our children at St Mary’s safe is paramount and part of this is working with our families to keep them up to date with the latest information on child safety issues. We will communicate these through our newsletter.
This week our focus is 'Group Chats’' The information has been provided by Mr Lachlan Ellis, Child Protection Officer from Catholic Education in Canberra.
A message from our Canteen Manager
Canteen, Term 3 & beyond…
Firstly, thank you to all our volunteers for your continued service. Without your commitment the St Marys P & F could not provide such a successfully run canteen for our children.
Going forward, I am going to have to ask our volunteers to be a little more involved in the general running of this service. I have undertaken permanent employment elsewhere, and whilst I am committed to continuing in the position of Canteen Manager, I just cannot physically do as much as I have been for the past 12 months. Without your assistance in the day to day tasks I may be forced to resign the position. These tasks include, but are not limited to:
- keeping the fridge clean & restocking drinks & frozen treats at the end of every service.
- assisting with stocktake by contacting me if supplies are low
- checking if daily groceries are required, such as salad items and rolls.
- making up lolly bags.
With your assistance we can ensure the continued quality of service our canteen currently offers.
Thank you,
Lisa Sturgess
